Could this month’s theme be in any way related to the fact that our chairman is a very keen (and accomplished) photographer of trains? A scurrilous rumour!
Photos of trains were certainly popular in this Show and Tell meeting, but they were outnumbered by planes and cars – racing mainly – although details, like headlights and radiators intrigued some members. Airshows were clearly a draw, with many of the shots of aircraft taken at these events.
Whilst the evening’s favourite image was of a plane, it wasn’t taken at a show, but at an airport, where displays are somewhat frowned upon. Jane Weston’s Into the Sunset was a lovely contre jour photo of a taxiing aircraft framed by a window.
This month was an opportunity for members to submit prints in lieu of digital images. A few members took this chance, perhaps with the thought that they could then enter them into October’s Photo Show. Once again the three types of transport were equally represented but the most popular print was Tony Teague’s beautiful study of Southern steam locomotive 847 in his 8.50am Rock Cutting image.
The image of the month section comprises photos taken by members since the last Show and Tell meeting. This month there were photos from near (West Haddon) to far (Japan) and many points in between. When in one of these intermediate places Colin Waite spotted a detail and this resulted in his simple but graphically strong, black and white image, Vase.
