Stillness – July 2026

The fortunate people who attended the excellent talk by Paul Sanders a few months ago will have been provided some inspiration for this month’s theme, Stillness.

With everything seemingly screaming for one’s attention we hoped this theme would offer some respite. Simplicity, minimalism, balance, symmetry are all techniques to convey stillness and calm, in both photography and our lives.

It was fascinating to see the subjects in the photos submitted by our members. They were varied and clearly represented what brought a sense of stillness and calmness to each individual. Landscapes, many including still water and reflections; trees and, unsurprisingly, gardens also featured widely.

The favourite image from this evening was a landscape too – a field of ripe wheat lit by the golden light of the setting sun. Not a Breath of Air by Jane Weston caught a sense of stillness perfectly.

The image of the month section are photos taken by members since the last Show and Tell meeting. This month insects featured widely, no doubt because the hot weather has meant they’re very active. The members’ favourite image had been inspired by Carol Hartfree’s talk – Andrew Jackson‘s perfectly executed ICM shot Norfolk Beach.
