Can you tell what it is? Abstract photography can be somewhat divisive, but it allows photographers to be creative and, possibly with a dose of chutzpah, to repurpose mistakes as ‘I meant to do that’.
Abstract photos can be anything from unfamiliar views of everyday objects, to double exposures, intentional camera movement, or a combination of all of these. Our members not only explored all these techniques, but some also created elaborate arrangements to capture their vision.
The end result was a huge variety of imaginative, thought-provoking and often puzzling photos, that we enjoyed viewing as much as the photographers enjoyed creating. because the images were do diverse members had a hard choice to make voting for their favourite. The image with the most votes was Colin Waite’s kaleidoscope-like Globe Thistle, in which he had employed an imaginative use of Photoshop editing.
The image of the month section are photos taken by members since the last Show and Tell meeting. After the abstract theme photos it was back to a sort of normality, but still with a large variety of subjects. Landscapes, ICM, street and architecture all featured, however it was a still life – River Lily by David Kallmeier, a sumptuously-coloured, yet delicately arranged composition – that garnered most of the members’ votes.
