'Scapes - May 2025

Landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes - they all found a home in this month's theme of 'Scapes'. This was another month where there was plenty of scope to interpret scapes in imaginative ways - truly we spoil our members.

 

Unsurprisingly, landscapes formed the bulk of the submissions, with some members cunningly titling their images as a sunscape or riverscape. Extra points should be awarded to the moonscape, stationscape and aerialscape photos for imaginative titles.

 

This month we had some excellent images which made it tough to choose a favourite when each member only has one vote. Landscapes were very popular and, interestingly, many featured water - often the sea. There were some cityscapes showing how even urban areas can be photogenic, including a widescreen shot of a freeway, in true American road movie fashion. The favourite projected image was a seascape, and a stunning one: Alastair Bell's sumptuous and beautifully composed Seascape, a catamaran resting on wet sand at sunset.

 

Every other month we have an extra theme round comprising of printed images. The favourite for this section wasn't a landscape! It was Roofscape by Adrian Chandler, which was fairly self-descriptive, being a simple, graphical image of a ridged roof.

 

Last month we were complaining about the dull, cool weather, this month we're basking in summer-like conditions. Our members have made the most of this to take photos for Image of the Month. Subjects represented in members' photos included wild garlic, blossom, tweed-clad cyclists, curious lambs and a still life tribute to VE Day. Two images received the most votes: David Kallmeier's Old Mill - flour sacks in a careworn room suffused with golden light, and Leisha Mofford's vibrant Tulips that captured these colourful blooms stretching into the distance.
