Deep breath... And relax...
The theme for February was Peace and Tranquility, two things that are increasingly difficult to find in today's frenetic world. The benefits of having images that help engender feelings of calm can't be overstated and photographers have an important role creating them.
Clearly our members are a chilled bunch as they submitted plenty of soothing images for our Show and Tell meeting. Broadly the photos fell into two categories: images of calm and relaxing scenes, like woodlands, countryside, boats reflected on smooth water, and images including subjects that seemed to have not a care in the world.
As ever it was interesting to see the results of the voting as it showed how some images were better able to engender feelings of calm than others. Not surprisingly there was a wide spread of votes for the photos, and only three received more than one vote. These were: the poignant and minimalist Lonely by Alastair Bell, relaxing by the beach in Vitamin Sea by Colin Waite (who also wins this month's pun award). Finally, is that Tuscany? No, it's Crick in Adrian Chandler's Village in the Mist.
The recent dull and cold weather conditions haven't been encouraging our members to get out and make photos, but we still had a varied selection that were taken since our last Show and Tell meeting. Many genres were covered - landscape, street, travel and wildlife and it was the last of these that was the most popular. Once again Colin Waite treated us to a superb study of a wild bird, this month a kestrel, in his I've Twigged You image.
