Club Meetings & Events

We have four different type of meetings: Show and Tell, Knowledge Night, Photo Shoots and Click & Natter.

Show and Tell

Held every third Thursday, apart from August, these meetings are a chance to share and talk about our images and give and receive friendly, constructive comments and advice. Members may submit up to three digital images (and/or prints at some meetings) on that month's theme and a single Image of the Month of any subject, taken since the previous Show and Tell meeting. Meetings start at 7pm in the Baptist Schoolroom, Guilsborough Road, NN6 7AD, then at 7:15pm we start showing the images with a break midway for refreshments. Each month's theme is listed below and guidance on how to submit images is at the bottom of this page. Non-members are welcome to attend two of these meetings free of charge.

Knowledge Night

Usually taking place on or around the fourth Thursday, apart from August, Knowledge Nights are a great way to increase your photographic skills, experiment, or just have some photo fun. They include tutorials, demonstrations and talks on various aspects of photography - some delivered by professional photographers - to opportunities to ask for advice or an explanation about anything photographic. Meetings will be held in the Baptist Schoolroom unless otherwise advised and the list of subjects is below. Non-members may purchase tickets to attend talks by speakers.

Photo Shoots

We try to arrange a couple of visits a year to photographically interesting locations to allow for exploration and practice with like-minded people. Occasionally these are organised with other photo clubs which allows us to meet and exchange ideas and tips.

Click & Natter

This is an informal gathering of members who meet for a coffee at the Pytchley (one of the sponsors of our Photo Show) in West Haddon at 10am, usually the first Wednesday in the month. Discussion covers photography, previous and forthcoming WHPC club meetings and much else. The dates for these meetings are below.

2026 Programme

Take a look below for our meetings and events. You can download an A5-sized handout of our 2026 Programme to pin to your notice board, or alternatively a detailed copy of our 2026 Programme, as below.

For more information on any of our events or if you’ve a talk you think we’d be interested in hearing please email the Programme Secretary - events@whphoto.club .

January

14th - Click & Natter

An informal members' get-together for a chat over coffee at The Pytchley in West Haddon.

22nd - Knowledge Night - Architecture Through the Viewfinder - Martine Hamilton-Knight

To save you from venturing out into a cold, dark night our first talk for 2026 is over Zoom. Whilst we’re all familiar with architectural photography from estate agents’ brochures, Martine will explain how to elevate this from simple snaps of bathrooms to fine art.

29th - Show & Tell - Theme: Reflections, AGM

Reflections - this is our first theme of 2026. Reflections in photos can be used to obtain unusual view points, create abstracts or convey a feeling of calm with trees reflected in a lake. We can also use photos to reflect on the past. His meeting we’ll also have our AGM.

February

11th - Click & Natter

An informal members' get-together for a chat over coffee at The Pytchley in West Haddon.

19th - Show & Tell - Theme: Sculptures / Monuments

Often in surprising places and sometimes taking strange forms, sculptures and monuments are our theme this month. It’s estimated in the UK of statues depicting historical figures 86% were of males, will our members’ images reflect this? Members may submit up to 3 prints in lieu of digital images.

26th - Knowledge Night - My Photographic Journey - Alastair Bell

Alastair is well-known for his love of older film cameras and using film when taking photos. We’re sure he’ll illustrate his photographic journey with plenty of examples.

March

11th - Click & Natter

An informal members' get-together for a chat over coffee at The Pytchley in West Haddon.

19th - Show & Tell - Theme: Forests, Woods and Paths

Some of the most enchanting images shown at our Show and Tell meetings have been of forests and woods, so we are eagerly anticipating our members’ images this month. If trees aren’t your thing, then you can follow your own path...

26th - Talk - Wider World of Photography Part Two - Ashley Franklin

We welcome back Ashley Franklin to present part two of his talk exploring the history, style and impact that different genres photography have had. Ashley will illustrate his talk with the work of some photo greats. His last talk was most popular so we’re looking forward to this one.

April

8th - Click & Natter

An informal members' get-together for a chat over coffee at The Pytchley in West Haddon.

16th - Show & Tell - Theme: Time

Time – an abstract concept, yet so central to all our lives. It’s our theme this month so, somehow our members need to depict this in their submissions. We hope our members find time to take some photos and submit them in time. Members may submit up to 3 prints in lieu of digital images.

23rd - Talk - Mindful Photography - Paul Sanders

WHPC has been fortunate to have had talks by some excellent photographers and Paul is certainly one of them. We’ve invited him back, this time in person, to present his talk on Mindful Photography which is sure to include some sublime and thoughtful images.

May

13th - Click & Natter

An informal members' get-together for a chat over coffee at The Pytchley in West Haddon.

21st - Show & Tell - Theme: Calendar Shots

Every year WHPC produces its own calendar which is very popular and usually sells out at Photo Show. We’re using this month’s Show and Tell meeting to encourage members to submit suitable images for our 2027 calendar.

28th - Talk - Finding the Beauty in Nature - Chris Upton

Chris is another photographer we’re very pleased to welcome back. This time he’ll be presenting a talk that will demonstrate how to capture the beauty of the landscape – from sweeping vistas to intimate details.

June

10th - Click & Natter

An informal members' get-together for a chat over coffee at The Pytchley in West Haddon.

18th - Show & Tell - Theme: Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Could this month’s theme be in any way related to the fact that our chairman is a very keen (and accomplished) photographer of trains? A scurrilous rumour! When we’ve had this theme in the past it’s been very popular and we’re looking forward to seeing the images our members submit. Members may submit up to 3 prints in lieu of digital images.

25th - Talk - Artificial Lighting Part Two - Tony Teague and David Kallmeier

Following on from their talk in November last year, Tony and David will continue their theme of using artificial lighting in photography. To try and do this huge topic justice they’ll expand on some of the themes they introduced in Part One as well as covering some new ones.

July

9th - Click & Natter

An informal members' get-together for a chat over coffee at The Pytchley in West Haddon.

16th - Show & Tell - Theme: Stillness

We hope our members were inspired by Paul Sanders’ talk in April to create their own photos for this month’s theme of Stillness. Arguably all photos are still by their nature, but we hope to see some that convey relaxation and calm.

24th - Photoshoot - TBA

Planning is still under way for this year’s photoshoot. Events in past years have included private visits to the stunning gardens and grounds of Stoke Park Pavilions and Cottesbrooke Manor.

August

12th - Click & Natter

An informal members' get-together for a chat over coffee at The Pytchley in West Haddon.

August Challenge

There are no Show and Tell or Knowledge Night meetings during August, instead we have an August Challenge. This is where we set our members a theme and challenge them to take up to three photos in the period between our July and September meetings.  We’ve yet to set the subject for 2026 and will announce details here when we do.

September

9th - Click & Natter

An informal members' get-together for a chat over coffee at The Pytchley in West Haddon.

17th - Show & Tell - Theme: Light(s)

Nothing is more fundamental to photography than light; the word after all is Greek for light painting. Light reflected from objects is what helps us see them and, perhaps, point a camera at them. We can also use light to direct the viewer’s attention in a photo through the use of its intensity or colour. We’re looking forward to seeing the imaginative use of light in our members’ submissions. Members may submit up to 3 prints in lieu of digital images.

24th - Knowledge Night - TBA

The subject for this month's Knowledge Night is still to be announced. Details will appear in the programme as soon as final arrangements have been made.

October

7th - Click & Natter

An informal members' get-together for a chat over coffee at The Pytchley in West Haddon.

10th & 11th - Photo Show

Now in its 12th year, this is our headline event of our programme. Photo Show provides a unique opportunity for local photographers to showcase their work to the public. There'll be an exhibition of prints throughout All Saints' church in West Haddon, as well as a rolling display of digital images.

15th - Show & Tell - Theme: Abstract

Is it a bird, is it a plane? It may be hard to tell with this month’s theme of abstract. Everyday objects taken from strange angles are only one form of abstraction, there are many others subject only to the ingenuity and imagination of our members.

22nd - Knowledge Night - TBA

The subject for this month's Knowledge Night is still to be announced. Details will appear in the programme as soon as final arrangements have been made.

29th - Open Evening

We’ll be opening the doors of our usual meeting venue – the Baptist Schoolroom – and inviting in everyone who may be interested in seeing what we do. Members will be available to answer questions about the club and photography in general and we’ll have a rolling display of members’ photos.

November

11th - Click & Natter

An informal members' get-together for a chat over coffee at The Pytchley in West Haddon.

19th - Show & Tell - Theme: Water, Boats and Boating

In it, on it, under it, messing about with it, reflected in it – all these fit into this month’s theme. Water seems to attract us and hopefully will result in some varied photos we can see during our Show and tell meeting. Members may submit up to 3 prints in lieu of digital images.

26th - Knowledge Night - TBA

The subject for this month's Knowledge Night is still to be announced. Details will appear in the programme as soon as final arrangements have been made.

December

9th - Click & Natter

An informal members' get-together for a chat over coffee at The Pytchley in West Haddon.

17th - Show & Tell - Theme: Images of the Year

The last meeting of the year features members’ favourite three photos they’ve taken in 2026. Members may submit up to 3 prints in lieu of digital images. Instead of our usual Image of the Month section we'll be having some festive nibbles and drinks.

19th - Members' Christmas Meal

An opportunity for the whole club to come together one final time this year to share a meal at The Pytchley.
