We welcomed in 2026 with our first theme of the New Year – Pointed

Our members were invited to submit images of almost any subject as long as they’re pointy or pointing, ‘cos was the, er, point of the theme.

The beauty of themes like this is they’re so open to interpretation, so we had a wide variety of subjects, Who knew there were so many pointy things around us?

Broadly the images fell into two categories: things that are pointed, and something or someone pointing at something or someone else. Buildings featured widely, as did the natural world, with a wide range of flowers, leaves and beaks.

Our favourite photo this month came from the second category, a particularly chilly scene of a rime-covered fence in the Peak District, in Alastair Bell’s Icicles. His use of black and white certainly enhanced the feeling of cold.

After a welcome break for tea and biscuits, we sat down again to look at photos taken by members since the last Show and Tell in our Image of the Month section.

Without a set theme the images were diverse, although a good proportion had a wintry theme, unsurprisingly. The members’ favourite this month was a snow and ice covered boat on the canal – Snow and Ice by Adrian Chandler.
